About this policy
OpenLearn Engineering is a public, static educational website. This policy describes the website's current implementation as reviewed on the date above. It is an operational explanation, not legal advice or a claim of compliance with every country's laws.
Information stored in your browser
The website uses browser local storage for optional learning conveniences. Depending on the features you use, it can store:
- Theme preference: whether you selected the light or dark theme.
- Completed lessons: identifiers for lessons you marked complete.
- Bookmarks: identifiers for lessons you bookmarked.
- Recently visited lessons: lesson identifiers and visit timestamps, with a short recent-history limit.
- Quiz results: lesson identifiers, whether each answer was correct, and attempt timestamps. The site keeps a limited recent set of attempts.
- Flashcard progress: card status such as known or needs revision.
This information is stored by your browser on the device and browser profile you are using. It supports theme persistence, progress displays, bookmarks, recent-history lists, quiz summaries, and flashcard revision. The website's current front-end code does not send these local learning records to an OpenLearn Engineering account or learning database.
Local storage is not an account or a backup. The data is not synchronized between devices or browser profiles. Clearing site data, using a different browser or device, or using a browser mode that discards local storage can make the records unavailable.
To clear this information, use your browser's site-data or website-storage controls for openlearn-engineering.pages.dev. Clearing all site data may also reset other preferences for this website. Browser menus differ by browser and device.
Accounts and server-side learning records
The current source code does not implement visitor accounts, sign-in, a server-side learning-progress database, or a form that submits learning activity to OpenLearn Engineering. Learning features are designed to work locally in the browser. This statement describes the current implementation and may change if the website adds server-backed features.
Hosting and technical information
The website is delivered through Cloudflare Pages. As with public websites generally, the hosting and delivery provider may process technical request information to serve pages, maintain reliability, cache content, investigate abuse, and protect its network. Such information can include an IP address, requested URL, request time, browser or device details, referrer information, and security or diagnostic events. The exact data, processing purposes, and retention periods are governed by the provider's current documentation and terms; OpenLearn Engineering does not control the provider's infrastructure logs.
External links and third-party services
Some pages link to external websites, including the project's public GitHub issue tracker for correction and problem reports. When you follow an external link, the destination website may receive technical information from your browser and process any information you choose to submit under its own privacy notice and terms. External sites are not controlled by OpenLearn Engineering. Avoid including passwords, financial details, or sensitive personal information in public issue reports.
The current website source does not intentionally load an analytics provider, advertising network, third-party tracking pixel, or embedded third-party media player. Browser extensions, network providers, and external sites you choose to visit operate independently.
Advertising and analytics
Advertising is currently disabled. The repository's ads.txt file states that advertising is not enabled, and the current website source does not include an advertising-network integration. No first-party analytics integration is present in the reviewed source.
If advertising, analytics, an external code runner, embedded media, or another third-party integration is introduced, this policy will be updated to identify the actual service, explain the relevant data processing and storage, and describe any consent or preference controls that apply before the feature is enabled.
Contact, corrections, and policy updates
To ask a privacy-related question or report an issue with this notice, use the public OpenLearn Engineering GitHub issue tracker. GitHub issues are public by default. Do not post private contact details or sensitive personal information. GitHub handles information submitted to its service under its own privacy notice and terms.
If information in this notice is inaccurate or the website's behaviour changes, please report the specific page or feature so the notice can be reviewed and corrected. Material changes to data handling should be reflected here when the relevant feature is introduced.
This policy may be revised as the website changes. The review date above identifies the latest review of the current implementation.
